Hello, my friend!
Coming at you from a cozy weekend— the sun is shining, we just had a Friendsgiving brunch with friends, and I am writing this while Miles naps. [Extra]ordinary bliss!
And we have a great edition of The Sunday R.E.S.E.T. coming your way!
Today, our R.E.S.E.T. will cover…
READING: 5 books (and even a poem?!) that have influenced how I parent.
EATING: Maple-infused butter. Enough said.
SHOPPING FOR: I am not going too crazy with Black Friday sales this year, but there are a few things I am VERY excited about.
ESKURI NEWS: We are forever doing mini house projects, and today I’m finally sharing before, middle, & after photos of our nursery!
THANKFUL FOR: ‘Tis the season! I’m sharing a tangible exercise for feeling grounded, peaceful, & grateful this holiday season.
Ya ready? Let’s jump in!
I have mixed feelings about parenting books.
This may be a hot take, but I feel like parenting resources can actually take moms & dads out of their intuition & disconnected from their natural instincts because lessons insinuate that there’s one singular “right” way to raise a child (hint: there’s not).
It’s easy to forget that every parent has their own unique approach, skills, and attitude so parenting will look different from person-to-person. And we should embrace that!
I personally strive to parent in the unique Kate-Eskuri-specific way that is intuitive to me.
No matter what I do or how I admire them, I will inevitably parent differently than my mom, my sister, my best friend, my mom friend at the park, the radnom social media influencer I follow, or my neighbor does. And that’s okay!
I try to lean into *my* motherly intuition, and allow others to lean into *their* unique way of parenting.
But! At the same time, I take this role and “job” seriously, and obviously want to be the best mom I can be. While I’ll always follow my intuition, I enjoy learning different perspectives too ;)
A few parenting books that I have referenced, skimmed, & enjoyed—
It’s important to note that each of these books had lessons that I did (and didn’t) agree with… and that’s okay!
I don’t think any one book will ever “perfectly” capture how I want to parent so I just take what resonates from each book & leave the rest ◡̈ If even one small lesson, hack, or mindset shift “clicks” from each read, it was worth it!
As you guys know, I have been on my homemade bread making journey— and lately, I’ve been topping it with maple butter.
Holy smokes. SO. GOOD.
The best part? It’s incredible easy, and would be a perfect edition to your Thanksgiving feast!
MAPLE BUTTER RECIPE:
1.5 sticks of butter, softened (don’t attempt on cold or semi-cold butter)
1/4 cup of pure dark maple syrup
1/8 - 1/4th tsp of cinnamon based on taste
Dash of salt
Simply mix the ingredients vigorously for a few minutes until well-combined. I bet you could use a fork/whisk, but I personally utilize the handheld mixer so that it becomes fluffy & airy! Depending on the type of maple syrup you have, you may need to tweak the amounts of butter/syrup until you get your desired consistency.
So delicious, and an easy way to elevate a simple bread & butter. Enjoy!
Whew, these sales!
My email inbox is flooded with 40% off here, BOGO deals there, and “don’t miss it!” opportunities.
And, honestly? This is my Super Bowl 😂
I can’t deny that I’m a bargain hunter to my core, and I love using Black Friday strategically to save on things I was planning to purchase regardless.
This year I don’t have many things I need to buy so I’m mainly just window shopping and buying Christmas gifts ◡̈ But, that said, there are a few [very specific] items I am hoping to find.
Here’s what I’m eyeing up—
