The Sunday R.E.S.E.T. #10
the exact calendar I'm using for 2024, HOW to tidy up your kitchen easily, & my go-to essential oil.
Hello, hello, my friend!
Happy Sunday!
Honestly? This week was kind of blah for me. Not necessarily “bad”, but I’ve just feel a bit off, low energy, disengaged, etc. lately.
It’s hard to describe, but I feel like I’ve been in a bit of a fog?
Sort of like my brain has already gone on holiday “out of office” mode but regular life & responsibilities continue to whirl on around me.
I can tell I’m in a period of transition (or stuck at an “in-between” as I wrote about on instagram here) that I can’t quite name or put my finger on... sort of like I’m trying to figure out what this specific season of growth even is *as* I’m actively living it?
Idk. I haven’t had my coffee yet. Just nod along & agree with me, k?
Regardless, I’m just trying to roll with & give myself grace & remind myself that times like this happen! It’s human. So, just in case you’re also feeling a bit foggy & in a funk lately, please know you’re not alone. ◡̈
Alright, enough of the pity party, let’s get into the good stuff!
This week’s Sunday R.E.S.E.T. will cover…
REWATCHING: The youtube video that I’ve watched on at least 100 different occasions. Annnnnd I cry each & every time.
ESSENTIAL OIL: Let’s be blunt— a lot of information about essential oils on the internet is bull$h!t, but there is ONE particular oil that I reach for over & over & over again in my first aid kit (and my skincare routine)
SHOPPING: Eeee! It was SPENDY, but I haven’t been this excited about a purchase in a longgg time. This feels like an answer to a prayer, tbh.
ENHANCING: An easy swap for a prettier, more tidy kitchen.
TRYING: My go-to method for getting out of a funk. (It’s only been a few days, and has helped so much).
Just a reminder that the first 3 “letters” of the R.E.S.E.T. are open to everyone (enjoy!), and then the rest of this email is solely for VIP subscribers.
Regular paid subscribers get access to the full Sunday R.E.S.E.T. every other week while VIP subscribers get it every week ◡̈
This is simply BONUS content & my way of saying thank you to founding members for the extra financial support for my newsletter! Absolutely zero pressure to upgrade, but if you’d like the full edition every week, you can become a VIP here or at the bottom of this email. Happy reading!
Let’s just say that out of the 7.2 million views this video has, I account for at least 200,000 of them.
Maggie Rogers has always been one of my favorite artists, and this video is her being discovered by Pharrell when he served a guest lecturer in her class at NYU. He listened to her signature song, Alaska, and his eyes say it all… [cue my sappy crying for the 500th time]
It is just so cool to see someone in their unique element doing their thing, and be appreciated for it.
I love how Pharrell highlighted that she is doing something so uniquely her that you can’t necessarily critique it— ya either like it or you don’t. And that’s that.
“You do your own thing— it's singular.”
A great reminder for us all. No one can do you in the way that you do it.
Here’s the thing— there’s a lot of irresponsible information about essential oils online. From your weird hippie aunt Linda and her MLM to reckless wellness influencers that claimed lavender oil ~cured~ their son’s asthma.
…..That’s not me.
During my doctorate, I took graduate-level courses in aromatherapy and studied the chemical makeup & physiologic impacts of these oils.
So, while I am never going to overstate claims or over-glamorize essential oils, I’m also not going to belittle them ;) There actually can be a lot of power in these little oils when used responsibly!
One such oil? My personal favorite— tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia).
It's the one oil I have had steadily stocked since 2015 when I first discovered its efficacy for spot-treating acne. (All of my college roommates can attest to me making my essential oil “witch potion” whenever I had a break out, haha)
Is it my favorite scent? Nope, not really. While it smells uplifting & energizing— I'm really here for it's medicinal properties.
Tea tree has long been regarded as a useful topical antiseptic agent as it is not only anti-inflammatory but also demonstrates some anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral properties. Personally, I love to mix it in a carrier oil to dilute it & utilize it on zits, wounds, scratches, etc. as a way to keep inflammation and infection at bay. I’ve even used it to make a a spray to clean my yoga mat!
As always, this is not medical advice, but just wanted to shout out to one of my MVP oils ◡̈ Is it a miracle cure-all? Absolutely not. But can it be a helpful tool when used responsibly? You bet!
As I mentioned in my holiday gift guide, we made ONE singular big purchase this Black Friday season, and here it is— a modern take on the family calendar. [insert alleluia chorus here]
Ever since having a child, Adam and I have had some issues consolidating all of our work schedules, appointments, childcare, routines, etc. in an efficient way. No matter what we did, some dates were only in my planner, his work shifts were solely in his online calendar, Miles’ appointments only got sent to me, etc, etc, etc.
But, BOOM, here’s the solution—
It’s all the conveniences of having a singular “old school” family calendar on the wall— yet merged with technology, online scheduling, reminders, etc. that you can update from an app.
Honestly? I can’t believe this wasn’t invented yet. I had been on the waitlist for months, and finally snagged one!
Is it spendy? Yes.🫠
Do I think it’s a “need”? Definitely not.
But we decided to invest as scheduling was becoming a real pain point for our family & this feels like perfect, modern solution.
(I just checked & they still have some inventory left for a MAY delivery— all the other lots sold out. You can try to snag one here ◡̈)
While I haven’t received it yet, I am just so excited & wanted to pass along to any others who are struggling to stay organized & consolidated in their family flow!
Okay, something so small that has made my kitchen feel so much more clean, organized, & aesthetic lately…
