You know those people who just light up a room?
They’re fun to be around, they’re interesting, they’re kind, they’re just… cool.
And NOT necessarily in like a chic, on-trend, ~aesthetic~ kind of way, but moreso their aura and energy just can’t be described any way besides effortless, vibrant, and, well, cool.
Recently, I found myself reflecting on this quality. What do all of these people have in common? Where do I see it show up in the people I know?
And I was kind of surprised to realize that a pretty clear list of qualities came to mind…
Because even though all the “cool” people in my life are VERY different, they have some commonalities that serve as great reminders to all of us to lean into who we are and become the coolest, most vibrant, most authentic versions of ourselves.
Okay, here’s the list of 27 things that are undeniably cool ⬇️ (… some are very random)
They have a signature element. The first person I thought of for this is my grandma Pat. She has passed, but she was sooooo effortlessly stylish and cool and she ALWAYS had this very unique burnt orange toenail polish on. There’s just something so chic about having a signature something, whether it’s a perfume, a unique laugh, or a certain pair of glasses— cool people often have something that is their signature.
(…even if that “something” is a somewhat questionable color toenail polish.)
My Grandma Pat was, of course, the muse of my most popular substack note of all time. I mean, is she not THE COOLEST?! They ask the waiter’s opinion (hear me out…)
