☕️ Sunday R.E.S.E.T. #18
social media detoxes, the matching set of my dreams, and a personal safety device (i promise it's not a lifejacket...)
Hello my friend!
Ahhhhh. Another week has come to a close. And with hints of spring in the air and daylight savings time giving us some delicious light in the evenings, I’m hoping that you’re feeling the freshness and warmth that this season brings.
Without further ado, here’s what we’re chatting about in this week’s Sunday R.E.S.E.T —
An exciting guest (!) R.E.S.E.T.: My friends from the newsletter
are sharing a mini Sunday R.E.S.E.T. of their own. So fun!Recommending: The little self-protection gadget that makes me feel SO much safer taking my daily walks
Enjoying: A quick roundup of my fave (uplifting!) Internet content of the week (including my latest “celeb” crush…)
Shopping: Am I back with a vengeance after my no-buy year? Not necessarily, but this was one clothing set I just couldn’t pass up!
Embracing: Being a little bit…high maintenance? Let me explain. ;)
Thinking About: My re-entry to social media and how to strike a balance with being online and living a vibrant life
READING:
“I’ve hardly been able to put down The Rachel Incident by Caroline O’Donoghue. Her characters are so beautifully written — I feel like I know them (the true sign of a good novel!)” -Aliza
EATING:
“I just discovered the Cosmic Crisp, an apple that, according to its website (!), is the result of 20+ years of research. It’s one of the best apples I’ve ever tried, so… the research paid off.” -Aja
SHOPPING:
“I borrowed this one-piece YouSwim suit from my sister last summer, and even less than a year postpartum, it made me feel really good about myself — which we love! So with spring and summer travel around the corner, I finally bought the same one for myself.” -Aliza
ENJOYING:
“Daylight savings! This is perhaps an unpopular opinion — but after just a few days, the extra hours of light in the evening (particularly around daycare pickup) are giving me such a boost. I live outside Boston, so now I’m just waiting for average daily temperatures to rise above 50…” -Aliza
THINKING ABOUT:
“The theory of “MGI”, or Most Generous Interpretation — parenting expert Dr. Becky’s catchy version of “assume best intent” I learned about via an A Thing or Two podcast episode. Lately, whenever someone frustrates or upsets me, I ask myself what the most generous interpretation of their actions would be. It’s helped me get some distance in a situation before responding (and unsurprisingly, the MGI is usually closer to the truth than LGI.)” -Aja
There we have it— my first ever guest R.E.S.E.T. ◡̈ I thought this could be a fun, abundant way to occasionally introduce you to some other writers and creators I personally follow & enjoy. A huge thank you to Platonic Love for being my guinea pig and contributing to this week’s R.E.S.E.T. I stumbled upon their newsletter a few months ago, and it’s quickly become one of my favorites. I highly recommend checking them out!
Now, without further ado, let’s jump into your regularly scheduled Sunday R.E.S.E.T. programming ⬇️
As the temperatures rise, I've been strolling on walk with Miles, and as many of us are aware, one of the unique delights of being a woman involves the constant consideration of safety wherever we go. ◡̈ ◡̈ ◡̈ ◡̈ ◡̈ ◡̈ Ahhhhh, *sighs longingly to live in Barbie dreamland*
I was looking for something small to keep on me when I’m in public to help make me feel a bit more secure. Enter: the Birdie alarm (commissionable link). I bought it myself on amazon and it’s a little device that you keep on your keychain and how it works is that if there’s an emergency you can pull the keychain and it starts flashing and emitting a loud siren noise, which will hopefully scare off an intruder and draw attention to you if you need help.
The only “con” in my mind is that it’s a little bulky on my keychain, but for me that’s a small price to pay for feeling safer when I’m walking by myself or with Miles. So that’s something random I’m recommending to anyone who is looking for a little gadget to help them feel [at least a little] more safe!
If there’s one thing I’m good at in the whole dark world of the Internet, it’s finding and curating UPLIFTING content.
You could call it a god-given gift, a true 21st century skill, (or, um, just my algorithm), but I personally like to think that I am especially good at finding just the right things to provide a little mood boost while scrolling.
Here are a few links, videos, and graphics that have made me smile, brought me peace, or touched my heart this week…
