HOW to Make Delicious Salad Dressing At Home (This Simple Formula is Easier Than You Think!)
My fool-proof formula for DIY dressings in less than 5 minutes. (Plus 3 specific recipes to get ya started!)
One of the things that I do in the kitchen that is so easy but makes me feel like I'm freaking Gordon Ramsay or something (“yes, chef!!!!!!!!!”) is making my own salad dressing.
Now, let’s set the record straight—
While I *do* love spending time in the kitchen and cooking nourishing meals for my family, I am not Martha Stewart.
I am moreso, your average millennial mom who 1) wants to put healthy food on the plate, but 2) doesn’t have an abundance of time to do it.
Of course I appreciate a home-cooked dish, but I personally will neverrrrrr be the person who cooks EVERYTHING from scratch, spends hours in the kitchen, or slaves away over a complicated recipe. Because ain’t nobody got time for that.
I like to keep things simple.
But the one thing I always make from scratch? Salad dressing.
And here’s why—

WHY homemade salad dressing rocks—
First and most importantly, it is often soooooooo much healthier than premade dressings— when you make your own salad dressing you can guarantee that it’s truly clean ingredients because YOU control what goes in.
It is lowkey wild to see the ingredients of the salad dressing on store shelves—preservatives, thickeners, gums, high-fructose corn syrup, artificial flavorings, insane amounts of sugars, industrial seed oils… [insert nervous chuckle here]
No, thank you.
By making your own salad dressings, you have the ability to take control of the ingredients you consume, nourishing + nurturing your body with every bite.
This may sound weird, but home-making a salad dressing feels like a mini self-care act to show yourself + your body some love. As with all things health and nutrition, a little intention goes a long way. :)
In addition to the health benefits, making your own salad dressing is
Much less expensive (healthier *and* saves money?! yes, please),
Totally customizable to any meal or flavor, annnnd
SUPER simple. Like, we’re talking 2-5 minutes total.
I tend to whip ‘em up on the spot when I need them in a smaller portion, but you can also make a larger batch all at once and store it in the fridge in a mason jar.
HOW to make your own salad dressing
So all that being said, I think we’re clear when it comes to the WHY of this DIY.
But the how is something that was definitely intimidating to me when I was first starting out DIY’ing my dressings.
(I remember feeling like only true *chefs* made their own salad dressings, and I belonged more in the “idiot sandwich” category)
But, my friends, I'm here to tell you it is SO simple — in fact, every salad dressing I make is based on one simple formula. (Yes, really).
