Sunday R.E.S.E.T. #16: a delicious (and healthy!) breakfast and... AARP?
plus, a before & after of our bathroom reno 👀
Happy Sunday!
After feeling in a funk for a few weeks , I am getting back into my groove— more peaceful, more in tune with myself, and I’ve caught some small [much-needed] glimmers of humanity lately:
🥺 The stoic businessman wearing a suit who jogged a block after me to hand me my toddler’s shoe that had unknowingly fallen off. Thank you, kind sir!
🌊 A particularly beautiful sunset over Lake Superior, and watching a sweet, middle-aged couple throw rocks in the water as the sun dipped.
💌 An out-of-the-blue piece of snail mail from one of my long-distance friends who printed out a few photos of us from her wedding along with a handwritten note encouraging me on The Reset. (I love you, Lizzy!)
🧸 The sweetest stuffed animal moment. When I was pregnant, my Grandpa Ron gave me a stuffed animal puppy that he had received free in the mail…. from A.A.R.P. (The sweetest 🥺) Fast-forward 18 months, and it is genuinely my son’s favorite toy. He is constantly carrying around this dog with an AARP logo on its collar. It’s hilarious, of course, but also weirdly meaningful to me. #GrandpaRonFanClub #MilesSupportsRetirees
🙏 The kind parking attendant who let me out of the ramp for free after my card had an odd bend in it and wouldn’t scan properly. Thank you for being so understanding!
I have nothing overly profound to add to this hodgepodge of sweet moments, but moreso a reminder to keep your eyes open to the humanness that surrounds you.
It can be easy to forget, but I truly believe that *most* people at their core are GOOD, decent humans— but sometimes we need to consciously open our eyes to really notice the fleeting moments of humanness, connection, & pure intentions that surround us each and every day.
Okay, sappiness aside, let’s get into our Sunday R.E.S.E.T., eh?
On today’s R.E.S.E.T agenda:
📚 READING: A hodgepodge of articles, posts, books, & interviews that have stuck out to me lately.
🥣 EATING: The easy make-ahead breakfast that tastes like dessert.
🛍️ SHOPPING: Reviewing my “empties” and the products I recently restocked, refilled, and re-ordered.
🕊️EMBRACING: A brief reflection on quiet time, slowing down, spirituality, & faith in this season of life.
🛁 TRANSFORMING: Sharing our before & after transformation of our bathroom! (This was our first-ever “big” renovation, and we are so happy with how it turned out…)
One of the most beautiful personal essays I’ve read in a long time by
This short ‘n’ sweet poem by Wendy Cope, shared by
.The Rise of the Accidentally Permissive Parent. “All type-A parents would love to think they’ve figured out the ‘best’ way to parent,” says Hershberg, “That goes for hard-core gentle proponents, traditionalists, and hybrids in the middle…. It’s harder to accept that it’s complicated.”"
Undoubtedly, the MOST joy-inducing, millennial-approved thing I read this week. In fact, I liked it so much I read it twice—
